First Home Owners’ Grant
As a first-time homeowner, we want you to focus on the important things. For some, understanding where you stand as a future homeowner and what you might be eligible for can be confusing. Find out which Government Scheme or Grant you can use for your first home.
The First Home Owners’ Grant (FHOG) is a helping hand from the QLD Government to assist first home buyers in buying or building their new homes.
How much is the Grant?
If your contract date is 1 July 2018 or later in Queensland, the First Home Owners’ Grant is $15,000. The First Home Owners’ Grant amounts vary depending on the State or Territory you are purchasing the home.
Who Is Eligible?
Each State and Territory has its eligibility criteria, but the following conditions apply in Queensland:
You, and your spouse, must not have purchased a home in Australia.
You can only receive the FHOG once, regardless of if you intend to purchase in a different State or Territory.
You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident (or applying with someone that is) to be eligible.
How do you apply?
There are two ways to apply for the QLD First Home Owners’ Grant – directly through the Office of State Revenue (OSR) and through an approved bank or financial institution (approved agent) that is assisting you with your finance.
